Canadian Observatory for Local Development (OCDL)

The Canadian Observatory for Local Development (OACDL) is an initiative of the Institute for the Studies of Contemporary State and Society Dynamics in Africa. It arises from the observation, on the one hand, of the embryonic nature of direct cooperation between Quebec and Canadian local authorities and African local authorities, and on the other hand, of the institutional vacuum in the framework of relations between these entities. Consequently, the Observatory's goals are to promote mutually beneficial exchanges between the municipalities of the two continents, to promote the influence of Quebec and Canada in Africa, and of Africa in Quebec and Canada.

To this end, the Observatory's mission is to support these communities in the success of their partnerships, to promote the networking of actors from the public and private sectors around a rich and mutually beneficial network. Finally, the Observatory produces research on the issue of local development in Canada and Africa.
